John Mellencamp is the new owner of a 1,800-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bath, full floor unit space in a historic cast-iron building in Grand Street SoHo. It is worthy to mention that the space comes with many of it’s original details.
For those of you who don’t know who John Mellencamp is, well let me tell you. Mr Mellencamp is an American musician, singer-songwriter, painter, and actor. He is also a Grammy winner. He also had ten singles including “Jack and Diane,” “R.O.C.K in the USA” and “Small Town.” He just released his most recent album “Sad Clowns & Hillbillies.” Mellencamp was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.
He bought the new property at a terrific price from photographer Antoine Verglas, and Catherine Ahnell, as it was first listed in 2015 for 3.1 million, and then relisted for $2.75 million.
Mr Mellencamp must be a good negotiator as he was able to buy the space for the bargain price of $2.3 million. A real steal, don’t you think?
“Cougar” Mellencamp as he is also known, also has access to a shared roof deck as well as access to basement storage.
With all of that gorgeous new space Mr Mellencamp is going to need a designer.
We bet that if John Mellencamp knows better, Meg Ryan will be the designer.
You see Meg Ryan sold her SoHo loft some time ago, which was the ninth home that the actress and director has redesigned, and was featured in Architectural Digest on July of 2017.
“But I love renovating. I think it’s tied to living the actor’s life. As an actor, you are so rarely in control. You’re always saying words that someone else has given you, standing in a room that someone else has designed, to create a reality that someone else wants to see. But with decorating I am in control; it’s a chance for me to bring my vision into the world.” Ryan is quoted as saying in the article.
And the location of the new space is also very convenient, right in the center of SoHo which Meg Ryan knows very well.
The pair dated for three years before Melencamp moved on to Christie Brinkley. But now Ryan and Mellencamp appear to have worked out their differences.
Mr Mellencamp has also been a long-time painter, and this space includes plenty of room to stretch a canvas or two, and then even host an opening to showcase the work.
