Local Scene

SoHo was "New York's first acronym" which began the trend for New York acronyns such as NoHo, Tribeca, and Dumbo.

"The New York Times noted, "Many SoHo residents objected to the name suggestive as it is of the grubby bohemian district in London that the area does not resemble".

Fun Facts

In the movie "Addicted to Love" Maggie
(Meg Ryan) and Sam (Mathew Broderic)
use a "camera obscura" to spy on Linda and Anton. The images they watch frequently are panned and zoomed, much like a modern video camera. But when we see Maggie and Sam, they are watching the images and not controlling the camera obscura. It is simply in a fixed position.
